What is a transmitter?

A transmitter converts the input signal from a measuring device like a sensor or probe into a stable 4-20 mA output signal. The output signal is used for interfacing and connecting to other control equipment like controllers, PLC, DCS, data loggers, or computers. A transmitter is able to isolate, amplify, linearize, and filter noise from the sensor signal in order to provide better accuracy.
