What is a flange?

A flange is a mechanical component that is used to connect pipes, valves, pumps and other fittings in piping systems. It is a flat disk or ring that attaches to the end of a pipe and serves to connect it to another pipe or device by means of bolts. The flange provides an easily detachable connection, which is useful for maintenance, repair and inspection of the system. The flanges allow for easy disassembly of the pipeline for cleaning, inspection or repair. They provide a very reliable connection for high pressures and temperatures.
